If I’m being honest, I can’t believe it’s November. This year has somehow flown and also seemed to never end. Like others, I have found myself overwhelmed by stressful situations this year and without the plans I so long to make. I sometimes feel like I’m still in denial that a virus could change so much and so quickly.
But as this year has gone on, I’ve challenged myself to focus not on the things that didn’t happen, but the things that have. Since September, I have photographed eight couples saying their I-Dos and next weekend I’ll shoot my final wedding of the year. I’ve gotten to experiment and work toward perfecting film photography while capturing the city that I call home in the process. I’ve gotten to put out pumpkin candles, plant mums, and celebrate friends getting engaged. Most importantly, I’ve gotten to fulfill my role as an American and cast my vote while working towards change. I’ve taken the October hike I’ve wanted to for years, spent an extended stay with my family, and photographed my first Indian wedding. While busy season tends to lack sleep, I can’t help but reflect on the small and big joys that it has held. This year is hard, and I have quite the long que of editing left before I settle down for the holidays, but for now I’m so grateful for sips of coffee, quiet moments admiring the leaves, and moments of joy captured in the chaos.
