When I had my first phone call with Katy and Ruan, I remember being struck by how much they considered each other’s thoughts throughout our conversation. Katy was constantly asking Ruan to weigh in, and Ruan was asking if Katy had any other questions or comments to bring to my attention. When I met them in person several months later for their engagement session, the caring they showed towards each other continued to shine through. These two love to laugh and have a good time together and it made me so excited for their wedding day.

Ruan and Katy’s wedding was the perfect blend of a calm morning that flowed into an incredibly fun night. We had a flexible timeline, so we finished a lot of portraits before the ceremony and had time left over during the day before the walk down the aisle. The ceremony was officiated by Katy and Ruan’s friend and pastor, Emily. During the ceremony, several of Katy’s family members assisted with streaming the wedding for Ruan’s family in Brazil, as they were not able to make it due to Covid. Ruan and Katy’s love felt almost tangible during their vows, as they smiled and giggled during each word they exchanged.

While the bridal party and I snuck out for some more portraits, cocktail hour was hosted inside the art gallery for the guests. I loved the modern vibe of this wedding and the way it felt very true to Charlotte. Ruan, Katy, and I took portraits alongside South End before heading back to their reception, and when I tell you guys this was a party, this was a PARTY. They kicked off dinner with Brazilian steaks, a taco bar, and a grits bar. I can say without hesitation that this was my favorite meal I’ve ever had at a wedding. Following dinner, emotional speeches were given from Katy’s father and maid of honor, Ruan’s family via Zoom, and Ruan’s best man. These two spent the rest of their wedding day dancing the night away to anything from samba to the Jonas Brothers. Ruan and Katy, your celebration was full of kindness, fun, a whole lot of love, and I can’t thank you enough for letting me be part of it. Cheers to The Botelhos!
